American Museum of Natural History, NY
As Project Director at Ralph Appelbaum Associates I worked with the American Museum of Natural History on the Gilder Center Addition and on the renovation to the Mignone Hall of Gems and Minerals.
The Gilder Center is a planned expansion to AMNH, designed by Studio Gang Architects and Davis Brody Bond, that will invite learners of all levels and ages to experience the Museum not only as a place of public exhibitions, but as an active scientific and educational institution. It showcases collections as the evidence for our understanding of the history and future of life on Earth. The Gilder Center will allow the Museum to extend and deepen its work in STEM education, engagement and inspiration through immersion in the authentic process of scientific research and discovery.
The Mignone Hall of Gems and Minerals features about 5,000 specimens from 95 countries and tells the fascinating stories of how mineral diversity arose, the environments in which minerals form, how scientists classify them, and how humans have used them throughout history for personal adornment, tools, and technology.
